"Puck in black leather may have surprised traditionalists, but Mad Dogs and Englishmen are keen to make Shakespeare relevant to young and old alike. And judging from the reaction of one young boy, who pleaded to see it again, it could well have sparked an interest in a whole new generation of theatre-goers."

Evening Gazette

"From the beginning it appeared that this production of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream was going to be different. Mad Dogs and Englishmen have completely bypassed the Victorian acidification of the wee-folk re-interpreting them as a gang of post-punk rave kids. This might sound alarming and subversive, but in fact it works, extremely well."

Mid Summer Night's Dream (William Shakespeare)

Hermia loves Lysander and plan to elope. Helena loves Demetrius but he loves Hermia. Helena tells Demetrius of the planned elopement thinking it will persuade him to forget Hermia. Instead he pursues the lovers into the forest so Helena follows.

But this is no ordinary forest. The fairies populate it. Oberon the king of the fairies has fallen out with his wife Titania and has told his servant, Puck to squeeze some love juice onto her eyelids when she is asleep. She will wake to love the first creature she sees.

Also in this forest some workmen are rehearsing a play. They also are unaware of the magic of this forest. Puck changes bottom’s head into a donkey’s head and you can guess who wakes up to greet this unfortunate weaver.

Puck has a busy time squeezing love juice and confusion follows.

Who says fairies are only for the top of the Christmas tree?
