Mad Dogs and Englishmen's first ever production was a new adaptation of the famous tale by Charles Dickens.
With an ingenious set the show was performed by only four actors. This is what the press said:

"With a whirlwind of just-enough costume change, the four produced the illusion of dozens, one actor sometimes addressing his imaginary other persona. The power is there, they deserve to reap the glory."

The Stage

"It is a clever adaptation, which allows the flavour of the original to breathe through a lively version of the tale. It's a feat of concentration, wig-swapping and costume changing. Through it all emerges the story, unscathed, entertaining and exciting."

A Tale of Two Cities (Charles Dickens) Adapted by Ann Courtney

Often considered to be Dickens' greatest historical, A Tale of Two Cities focuses on the lives of a group of people caught up in the horror of the French Revolution. The action of the novel takes place between England and France in the years leading up to the Terror'.

"The best story I have written," Dickens commented about his work which was much influenced by Carlyle's French Revolution, which Dickens greatly admired. The sharp action and complicated plotting (not afraid of astonishing coincidences) give this romantic tale a uniquely theatrical air.
